2009 Honda Odyssey EX-LSECTION Headliner Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required 

KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 *

NOTE:
  • Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
  • Take care not to bend and scratch the headliner.
  • Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.
  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
  2. Remove these items:
  3. Remove the roof console (A).
    1. Remove the lenses (B).
    2. Remove the bolts (C, D).
    3. Pull out the roof console and front individual map light (E).
    4. Disconnect the front individual map light connector (F) and navigation microphone connector (G).

  4. If equipped, remove the rear ceiling vents.
    1. Remove the lens (A).
    2. Slide the vent to the closed position to expose the screw (B).
    3. Remove the screw (C) and nut (D) (rear left side only).
    4. Pull out the rear ceiling vents (E) to release the clip (F), and disconnect the map light connector (G).

  5. Remove the headliner (A).
    1. With moonroof: Remove the socket plug (B).
    2. Remove the bolt (C).
    3. Remove the front door opening trim (D), rear door opening trim (E), and tailgate weatherstrip (F) from each roof portion.
    4. With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (G) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down.
    5. With moonroof: Release the Velcro fasteners (H) and detach the front clips (I) by lowering the headliner.
    6. Lower the headliner, and remove it through the tailgate opening.

    With moonroof

    Without moonroof

  6. If necessary, pull down the roof console bracket (A) to release the clip.

  7. '07 Models: If necessary, remove the grab handle bracket (A).
    1. Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolt (B) and grab handle bracket mounting bolts (C), then release the hook (D) on the side curtain airbag bracket (E).
    2. Release the hooks (F), then remove the bracket.

  8. '08-10 Models: If necessary, remove the grab handle bracket (A).
    1. Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolt (B) and grab handle bracket mounting bolts (C), then release the hook (D) on the side curtain airbag bracket (E).
    2. Release the hooks (F), then remove the bracket.

      Front and Center ('08-10 models)

      Rear

  9. Remove the bolts, then remove the dynamic damper (A).

  10. Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • If the side curtain airbag has been deployed, replace the headliner and the grab handles on the deployed side with new ones.
    • To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they are damaged:
      • Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
      • Any Velcro fasteners (B) or clip bases (C) which have come off the headliner
      • Any damage around the grab handle holes (D) or sunvisor holes (E) in the headliner
      • Any deformations in the grab handles (F)
      • Any deformations in the grab handle brackets (G)
      • Any cracks in the sunvisor stay bases (H)
      • Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shafts (I)
      • Any cracks in the sunvisor bases (J)
      • Any cracks in the vanity mirror base (K)
    • Make sure the top of the headliner overlaps with the trim pieces correctly (see CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP ).
    • When passing the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
    • Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the trim.
