Headliner Removal/Installation

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations (see COMPONENT LOCATION INDEX ) and the precautions and procedures (see PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES ) before doing repairs or service.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
- Take care not to bend and scratch the headliner.
- Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.
- Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
- Remove these items:
- A-pillar trim, both sides (see TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - PILLAR AREAS )
- Front seat belt upper anchor, both sides (see step 6 on FRONT SEAT BELT REPLACEMENT )
- B-pillar lower trim, both sides (see B-PILLAR UPPER/LOWER TRIM )
- B-pillar upper trim, both sides (see B-PILLAR UPPER/LOWER TRIM )
- C-pillar trim, both sides (see C-PILLAR TRIM )
- D-pillar trim, both sides (see D-PILLAR TRIM )
- Sunvisors, both sides (see SUNVISOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Grab handles, six places (see GRAB HANDLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Rear individual map lights (see REAR INDIVIDUAL MAP LIGHT TEST/ REPLACEMENT )
- Center second row seat belt cover (see CENTER SECOND ROW SEAT BELT )
- Center third row seat belt cover (see CENTER THIRD ROW SEAT BELT )
- RES display cover (see REAR CONTROLLER AND SCREEN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION )
- Rear A/C control panel (see REAR CONTROL PANEL REMOVAL/ INSTALLATION )
- Remove the roof console (A).
- Remove the lenses (B).
- Remove the bolts (C, D).
- Pull out the roof console and front individual map light (E).
- Disconnect the front individual map light connector (F) and navigation microphone connector (G).
- If equipped, remove the rear ceiling vents.
- Remove the lens (A).
- Slide the vent to the closed position to expose the screw (B).
- Remove the screw (C) and nut (D) (rear left side only).
- Pull out the rear ceiling vents (E) to release the clip (F), and disconnect the map light connector (G).
- Remove the headliner (A).
- With moonroof: Remove the socket plug (B).
- Remove the bolt (C).
- Remove the front door opening trim (D), rear door opening trim (E), and tailgate weatherstrip (F) from each roof portion.
- With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (G) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down.
- With moonroof: Release the Velcro fasteners (H) and detach the front clips (I) by lowering the headliner.
- Lower the headliner, and remove it through the tailgate opening.
With moonroof

Without moonroof
- If necessary, pull down the roof console bracket (A) to release the clip.
- '07 Models: If necessary, remove the grab handle bracket (A).
- Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolt (B) and grab handle bracket mounting bolts (C), then release the hook (D) on the side curtain airbag bracket (E).
- Release the hooks (F), then remove the bracket.
- '08-10 Models: If necessary, remove the grab handle bracket (A).
- Remove the side curtain airbag mounting bolt (B) and grab handle bracket mounting bolts (C), then release the hook (D) on the side curtain airbag bracket (E).
- Release the hooks (F), then remove the bracket.
Front and Center ('08-10 models)

Rear
- Remove the bolts, then remove the dynamic damper (A).
- Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the side curtain airbag has been deployed, replace the headliner and the grab handles on the deployed side with new ones.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect removed pieces and replace them if they are damaged:
- Any creases or tears in the headliner (A)
- Any Velcro fasteners (B) or clip bases (C) which have come off the headliner
- Any damage around the grab handle holes (D) or sunvisor holes (E) in the headliner
- Any deformations in the grab handles (F)
- Any deformations in the grab handle brackets (G)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor stay bases (H)
- Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shafts (I)
- Any cracks in the sunvisor bases (J)
- Any cracks in the vanity mirror base (K)
- Make sure the top of the headliner overlaps with the trim pieces correctly (see CHECKING AND ADJUSTING THE HEADLINER/PILLAR TRIM OVERLAP ).
- When passing the headliner through the tailgate opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
- Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the trim.

- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
