- Verify the customer concern by operating the transmission external controls.
- Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage, refer to the following chart:

Mechanical Electrical Selector lever BCM Fuse 19 (7.5A) Selector lever mechanism PCM/ TCM Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) Wiring harness Tow/Haul switch Loose or damaged connections Select Shift switch Corroded or damaged terminals - Retrieve all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and refer to the DTC Chart.
- If the fault is not visually evident and no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are present, determine the symptom. Refer to Symptom Chart-- External Controls or to Symptom Chart -- NVH .
