Code 9 - High Speed Sensor Resistance

  1. Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect diagnostic connector (Black/Orange wire) from its mating half (Red wire). Reconnect diagnostic connector and turn ignition on. If Yellow RABS warning light illuminates, go to next step. If warning light does not illuminate, go to INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSISΒ  and proceed with intermittent diagnosis for all affected circuits.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect control module connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONSΒ  . Gently pull on terminals No. 3 (Light Green/Black wire) and No. 10 (Red/Pink wire) of control module and control module harness connector. See Figure .
  3. If connector terminals are clean, fully engaged and corresponding terminal of control module are okay, leave control module disconnected and go to next step. If terminals are loose or have pulled out of connector, repair or replace terminals or connector and go to step 9). If control module terminals are loose, bent, deformed, corroded or missing, replace control module and go to step 9).
  4. Disconnect and inspect 2-pin speed sensor connector. See Figure . Gently pull on both speed sensor harness connector terminals. If terminals are clean and fully engaged in connector, leave sensor connector disconnected and go to next step. If terminals are loose or have pulled out of connector, repair or replace terminals/connector and go to step 9). If speed sensor terminals are loose, bent, deformed, corroded or missing, replace speed sensor. Reconnect sensor connector and go to step 9).
  5. Check resistance between terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Black wire) of control module harness connector and terminal associated with Light Green/Black wire of speed sensor harness connector.
  6. Check resistance between terminal No. 10 (Red/Pink wire) of control module harness connector and terminal associated with Red/ Pink wire of speed sensor harness connector. If resistance is less than 10 ohms in both tests, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms in either test, repair open circuit in affected wire. Go to step 9) after repairs.
  7. Check resistance between speed sensor terminals. If resistance is less than 2500 ohms, go to step 9). If resistance is 2500 ohms or greater, replace speed sensor and go to step 9).
  8. Ensure all preceding diagnostic steps have been completed and involved wiring integrity has been verified. If steps have not been completed, return to last step completed. If all steps have been completed, replace control module and go to next step. If control module has already been replaced without resolution of problem, replace speed sensor and go to next step.
  9. Ensure ignition is off. Reconnect negative battery cable. Ensure all connectors are connected and secure. Retrieve trouble codes. See RETRIEVING TROUBLE CODESΒ  . If Code 16 is present, go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVEΒ  . If Code 9 is present, go to next step. If any other trouble code is present, go to appropriate test for corresponding trouble code.
  10. Ensure all preceding diagnostic steps have been completed, and involved wiring integrity has been verified. If steps have not been completed, go to last diagnostic step completed and continue from there. If all diagnostic steps have been completed, go to next step.
  11. If previous diagnostic steps have been completed, problem is most likely wiring related. Go to INTERMITTENT DIAGNOSISΒ  and perform tests on affected circuits. If problem still exists, go to step 8). If problem is resolved, repair is complete. Go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVEΒ  .
