Trailer Reverse Steering Control (TRSC): Notes
DESCRIPTION
The Trailer Reverse Steering Control (TRSC) system is comprised of the following components:
| 1. | Refer to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . |
| 2. | Refer to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) . |
| 3. | Refer to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) . |
| 4. | Refer to ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . |
| 5. | Refer to ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) . |
| 6. | Refer to CENTRAL VISION PROCESSING MODULE (CVPM) with Surround View Camera (SVC) System. |
| 7. | Refer to TRAILER REVERSE STEERING CONTROL MODULE (TRSCM) . |
| 8. | Refer to RADIO . |
| 9. | Refer to TRAILER REVERSE STEERING KNOB (TRSK) . |
| 10. | Refer to REAR VIEW CAMERA (RVC) with or without SVC System. |
The TRSC system is a driver assistance feature which supports the driver in reversing a vehicle with an attached trailer. The TRSC system is a low speed function that allows a driver to reverse a trailer with ease, comfort and safety by providing steering assistance and vehicle speed limitation. During maneuvers, the driver can reverse a trailer with knowing that the TRSC system will prevent jackknife situations, in addition to providing intuitive controls that translate the user requested motion into the vehicle steering needed to steer the trailer in reverse.
The TRSC system assists the driver in the following ways:
- Speed limitation of the vehicle for comfort and safety
- Maintenance of the vehicle path in accordance with user request for desired trailer path
- Protection against jackknifing
The TRSC system utilizes a rotary knob allowing the driver to control the trailer heading. The TRSC system uses the image of a rear view camera in order to determine the current trailer position. The required vehicle steering angle is determined using the requested trailer heading and the current trailer position.
OPERATION
The first time a trailer is connected, upon pressing the TRSC button, located above the Trailer Reverse Steering Knob (TRSK) in the switch bank pod, the driver will be prompted to perform a calibration. The calibration maneuver only requires driving forward above 8 km/h (5 mph) and making two 90 degree turns with approximately 15 meters (50 feet) between the turns. Once calibrated and wanting to activate the TRSC system, the driver will shift to Park, press the TRSC button, then shift to R everse. Using the TRSK to provide the intended path, the module will control the steering and, if the TRSK is released, it will return to center and straighten the trailer direction. The driver is responsible for throttle and brake control during the maneuver, although the TRSCM will prevent over-acceleration.
