Condition
The control modules communicate with each other for exchange of information in a network via a standardized serial communication procedure - CAN (Controller Area Network). The diagnostic trouble code is stored if the engine control module (ECM) detects a malfunction in CAN communication.
Substitute value
- CAN communication is disabled.
- Cruise control shut off.
- Fuel cut-off that follows accelerator pedal position.
- Closing of throttle during braking.
Possible source
- Contact resistance in the terminals.
- Short-circuit between Control area network (CAN) wiring
- Open-circuit in the control area network (CAN) wiring
Fault symptom[s]
- General warning lamp lit
- ETS warning lamp lit
- The cruise control does not function at all
- The engine judders under acceleration
- The engine judders heavily after engine braking
- Uneven idle.
