Condition
The engine control module (ECM) checks the engine torque by reading off the acceleration of the flywheel.
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-990F is stored in the engine control module (ECM) if the measured torque exceeds the requested torque, based on the pedal position.
Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) ECM-990F can be diagnosed when the engine is running.

Substitute value
- The cruise control is disengaged when the fault is active
- The engine speed (RPM) is limited using fuel shut off. The maximum permitted engine speed depends on the accelerator pedal (AP) position.

- The exhaust camshaft has jumped off the cogs
- Air leak downstream of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor
