Perform the following test-drive:
Note! Read through the whole document before starting to test-drive.
1. Check the oil temperature in the transmission via read-out. Suitable temperature range is 40-65 °C.
2. Start Activation of gear indication. See, Diagnostics/Vehicle communication/Advanced.
Note! The activation only applies during one driving cycle.
3. Drive the vehicle with light load, approx. 60 km/h (37 mph) in 4th gear (engine speed approx. 1600 rpm). Check status of lock-up via control light IND.
Hint: The problems occur at slipping lock-up (IND-light flashes).
4. When the IND-light flashes, throttle up slightly on a slight uphill grade. Pay attention to if a brief vibration occurs, and that slipping lock-up is turned off. The engine speed should increase by approx. 500 rpm.
Vehicles with GearTronic lever carrier:
1. Perform the same step as above once more with the gear lever in GearTronic-position with 4th gear selected. Try also to keep the engine in the same engine speed range as during the previous check. In this position, slipping lock-up will not be possible, only locked lock-up. Then the indicator light will be on with a steady glow.
Vehicles with standard lever carrier:
- Perform the same step as above but with the gear lever in position 3. Try also to keep the engine in the same engine speed range as during the previous check. In this position, slipping lock-up will not be possible, only locked lock-up. Then the indicator light will be on with a steady glow.
1. Check if the vibrations follow the speed or if they are brief vibrations.
Note! It is likely that no new diagnostic trouble code will be stored as the diagnosis requires that the malfunction occurs during a number of driving cycles to enable storing of the diagnostic trouble.
Perform one of the alternatives below:
1. Vibrations occur both at slipping and locked lock-up: replace transmission.

2. Vibrations only occur at slipping lock-up: replace torque converter.
3. Vibrations only occur at locked lock-up: replace transmission.

4. Vibrations follow the speed:
Investigate other components, such as tire imbalance and similar.
5. No vibrations can be detected:
No further troubleshooting is required.
