Shift Interlock Cable: Installation

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Installation

  1. Verify that ignition key is in ACC position (Fig 1).

  2. Install shift interlock cable to ignition cylinder (Fig 2). Secure cable to instrument panel at retainer.

  3. Connect shift interlock cable connector (Fig 2).
  4. Route shift interlock cable towards shift mechanism.
  5. Connect interlock cable core to shift mechanism cam, and then secure cable housing to shift mechanism (Fig 3).

  6. Adjust interlock cable. (Refer to ADJUSTMENTSΒ )
  7. Install center console assembly (Fig 4).

  8. Install PRNDL surround bezel (Fig 5).

  9. Install gearshift bezel (Fig 6).

  10. Install gearshift knob (Fig 7). Torque set-screw to 2 N.m (20 in. lbs.).
