Section 954 (3.5L Engine (Service Information)): Crankshaft: Removal

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Removal

  1. Remove engine from vehicle (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
  2. Remove oil pan (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
  3. Remove oil pickup tube.
  4. Remove front timing belt cover (Refer to TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVALΒ  ).
  5. Remove timing belt and tensioner (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
  6. Remove crankshaft sprocket (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
  7. Tap dowel pin out of crankshaft.
  8. Remove oil pump assembly (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
  9. Remove crankshaft rear oil seal retainer (Refer to REMOVALΒ  ).
    WARNING: DO NOT use a metal stamp to mark the bearing caps. Do Use a scribe or paint mark
  10. Remove connecting rod bearing caps. Connecting rod bearing caps are not interchangeable and should be paint marked or scribed before removal to insure correct assembly (Fig 1 ) (Fig 2 ).
