Problem Symptoms Table

2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Problem Symptoms Table
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Toyota RAV4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

If a normal code is indicated during the DTC check but the problem still occurs, check the circuits for each problem symptom in the order given in table below.

NOTE:
  • When replacing brake actuator assembly, sensor or etc., turn the ignition switch OFF.
  • When replacing yaw rate sensor and/or the brake actuator assembly, make sure to perform yaw rate sensor zero point calibration (see PRE-CHECKΒ  ).
PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE - ABS, VSC AND BRAKE ASSIST SYSTEMS

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
