WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDUREΒ  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TESTΒ  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is generating active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If ORC is generating active DTCs, go to next step. If ORC is generating a stored DTCs, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODESΒ  .
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEMΒ  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access driver knee blocker and disconnect harness connector. See KNEE BLOCKER AIR BAG MODULEΒ  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to driver knee blocker harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER KNEE BLOCKER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER KNEE BLOCKER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, replace driver knee blocker air bag module.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect appropriate Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector (ORC connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for terminal placement). See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)Β  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Remove load tool from driver knee blocker harness connector. Measure resistance in driver knee blocker line 2 circuit (Dark Blue/Light Blue wire) between load tool adapter and driver knee blocker connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ  . Measure resistance in driver knee blocker line 1 circuit (Light Blue/Yellow wire) between load tool adapter and driver knee blocker connector. If resistance is less than one ohm in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is more than one ohm in either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
