WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) is generating active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If ORC is generating active DTCs, go to next step. If ORC is generating stored DTCs, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to driver-side air bag module harness connectors. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, replace driver-side air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access clockspring and disconnect lower clockspring harness connector. See CLOCKSPRING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to harness side of lower clockspring connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT OPEN, replace clockspring.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect appropriate Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector (ORC connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for terminal placement). See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Remove load tool from lower clockspring harness connector. Measure resistance in driver-side air bag module line 1 circuit (Light Green/Brown wire) between load tool adapter and clockspring connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance in driver-side air bag module line 2 circuit (Light Green/Orange wire) between load tool adapter and clockspring connector. If resistance is less than one ohm in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is more than one ohm in either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
