CAUTION:
Turning steering wheel with clockspring that is not properly centered may break or damage wire tape inside clockspring. Clockspring failure may result. The following procedure must be used to center clockspring.
- Place front wheels in straight-ahead position. Remove clockspring, if necessary. See CLOCKSPRINGΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Hold clockspring in one hand so that it is oriented as it would be when it is installed on steering column. Use other hand to rotate clockspring clockwise to end of travel. DO NOT apply excessive force.
- From end of travel, rotate rotor 2 1/2 turns in counterclockwise direction until arrows are aligned. The uppermost pin on lower surface of clockspring rotor should now be the oblong pin. Secure clockspring rotor to clockspring case to maintain centered position, and clockspring is installed on steering column.
