Front Wheel Bearing: Reassembly
2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Reassembly

- Using Special Tool (09527-17011, 09950-60020, 09951-00910) and a press, install a new bearing to the steering knuckle. Using snap ring pliers, install a new snap ring. See Fig 1.
- Using Special Tool (09223-15030, 09527-17011) and a plastic hammer, install a new oil seal (outside). Coat oil seal lip with MP grease.
- Install the dust cover to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts. Torque to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Using Special Tool (09649-17010) and a press, install the axle hub to the steering knuckle.
- Install the bearing spacer and ABS speed sensor rotor (w/ ABS) or spacer (w/o ABS).NOTE: Take care not to scratch the serration of the speed sensor rotor.
- On 2WD models, install new lock nut. Using Special Tool (09318-12010), install and torque a new lock nut to the axle hub, . See Fig 1. Torque to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Using a chisel and hammer, stake the lock nut.
- On 4WD models, install bearing spacer. Using Special Tool (09950-60010, 09951-00650, 09950-70010, 09951-07150) and a press, install the bearing spacer. See Figure and Fig 1 .
- On 2WD models, install grease cap. See Fig 1.
- On 4WD models, install new oil seal. See Fig 1. Using Special Tool (09527-17011) and a plastic hammer, install a new oil seal (inside). Coat oil seal lip with MP grease.
- Install hub and knuckle. See installation under HUB & KNUCKLEΒ .
