Removal & Installation
2004 Toyota Matrix XR, FWD, StandardSECTION Removal & Installation

- Drain engine coolant.
- Loosen belt tension by turning belt tensioner counterclockwise. Remove drive belt. Pulley bolt for belt tensioner has a left-hand thread.
- Disconnect 3 hoses, bolt, nut and oil cooler pipe.
- Remove grommet and separate camshaft position sensor connector and camshaft position sensor wire from left timing belt cover. Disconnect 3 wire harness clamps. Remove 4 bolts and left timing belt cover.
- Remove bolt, stud bolt and camshaft position sensor. See Fig 1.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ .
- Check for engine coolant leaks.
