Fuel Tank Assembly: Removal

- Perform fuel system pressure release. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASEΒ .
- Fold rear seat forward. disengage claws and remove rear seat cushion hinge covers. Set seat upright. Remove bolts, nut and seat.
- Remove rear floor step cover No. 1. Remove 2 bolts and quarter scuff plate inside left side. Remove rear door scuff plate on left.
- Remove tear-off floor mat.
- Remove 3 screws from center floor hole cover. Disconnect 2 connectors. See Fig 1.
- Disconnect fuel tank to filler pipe hose from fuel filler pipe. See Fig 2. Drain fuel.
- Set a floor jack to fuel tank protector. Remove 6 bolts and fuel tank protector.
- Check that there is no dirt around quick connectors of fuel tank main tube and fuel tank return tube. If connector and pipe are stuck, turn retainer carefully to free and then disconnect fuel tank tube. Pinch projections of retainer to remove lock claws and pull out 2 fuel tank tubes. See Fig 3.
- Check that there is no dirt around quick connector. If connector and pipe are stuck, turn retainer carefully to free up. Disconnect fuel tank breather tube. Pinch projections of retainer to remove lock claws and pull out fuel tank breather tube. See Fig 4.
- Disconnect fuel tank breather tube from fuel tank by pushing connector deep inside, pinch part "A" and pull out connector. See Fig 5.
- Set a floor jack to fuel tank. Remove 2 bolts, 2 fuel tank bands and fuel tank. Remove fuel tank cushions.
- Check that there is no dirt around quick connector. Remove 2 fuel tube joint clips and pull out fuel tank tubes. See Fig 6. If stuck, turn carefully to free up, then disconnect.
