Cylinder Head Assembly: Removal

2004 Subaru Outback Base, 4D Wagon, EJ251, StandardSECTION Removal
  1. Remove V-belt. Refer to REMOVALΒ , V-BELT.
  2. Remove crankshaft pulley. Refer to REMOVALΒ , CRANKSHAFT PULLEY.
  3. Remove belt cover. Refer to REMOVALΒ , BELT COVER.
  4. Remove timing belt assembly. Refer to REMOVALΒ , TIMING BELT ASSEMBLY.
  5. Remove camshaft sprocket. Refer to REMOVALΒ , CAMSHAFT SPROCKET.
  6. Remove intake manifold. Refer to REMOVAL , Intake Manifold.
  7. Remove bolt which installs A/C compressor bracket on cylinder head.
  8. Remove valve rocker assembly. Refer to REMOVALΒ , VALVE ROCKER ASSEMBLY.
  9. Remove camshaft. Refer to REMOVALΒ , CAMSHAFT.
  10. Remove cylinder head bolts in alphabetical sequence shown in Fig 1 .
    NOTE: Leave bolts (a) and (c) engaged by three or four threads to prevent cylinder head from falling.
