- Trouble codes may be read by using Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) on instrument panel or with DRB. See either MIL DIAGNOSTIC MODE or DIAGNOSIS USING DRB headings below. Using DRB will provide a more complete diagnosis.
- If trouble codes are not present and DRB is used, proceed to TEST TC-1A, CHECKING SYSTEM FOR TROUBLE CODES under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
NOTE:
The PCM cannot diagnose every charging system problem. If a failure still exists after performing self-diagnostic procedures, go to ON-VEHICLE TESTING .

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
