Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV): Removal

1998 Oldsmobile Achieva 3.1 M, 4T40E/MN4SECTION Removal

  1. Brake Pressure Modulator Valve (BPMV) is located next to EBCM/EBTCM, on top of left front frame rail ("F" body) or on left side strut tower in engine compartment ("W" body). Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Pull out lock tab from EBTCM harness connector and disconnect connector.
  2. Note location of primary and secondary BPMV brakelines, and remove lines. Plug brakelines to prevent loss and contamination of fluid. Remove BPMV bracket nuts. Slide heat shield off of insulator stud.
    NOTE: When removing BPMV, protect vehicle exterior paint from possible brake fluid spillage.
  3. Reposition brakelines to one side as necessary for removal of BPMV. Remove BPMV and EBCM/EBTCM as an assembly from bracket. If necessary, separate EBCM/EBTCM from BPMV.
