TAILGATE REMOVAL / INSTALLATION









Removal

1. Open the tailgate.

2. Partially close the tailgate to relieve tension on the support cables.

3. Pull up on the cable retainer spring and slide the cable retainer to the large opening in the hook and lift it off. Repeat for other side.

4. Pull the right side of the tailgate rearward to remove it from the right hinge.

5. Move the tailgate to the right to remove it from the left hinge.

Installation

1. If a new tailgate is being installed, transfer all moldings, latches, hinges, brackets, cables, links, clips, washers and all remaining hardware to the new tailgate.

2. Lubricate each hinge cup with NLGI No. 2 grease.

3. Insert the left side of the tailgate into the left hinge and raise it to a 45 degree angle.

4. Insert the right side of the tailgate into the right hinge.

5. Support the tailgate to allow slack in the support cables and reattach the cables one at a time.
