Parking/Emergency Brake

1991 Mazda MX-6 GT, StandardSECTION Parking/Emergency Brake
  1. Parking brake lever stroke should be 5-7 notches with a pull force of 22 lbs. (10 kg). If parking brake needs to be adjusted, start engine. Depress brake pedal several times. Turn engine off.
  2. Remove adjusting nut clip and turn adjusting nut at front of parking brake cable. See Fig 1 . After adjusting, turn ignition on. Pull parking brake lever one notch and ensure parking brake warning light illuminates. Release parking brake and ensure rear brakes do not drag.
