Axle Shafts: Reassembly
1998 Lexus GS 300SECTION Reassembly
- Using press, install dust deflector. Assemble inboard CV joint. If mating marks are present, ensure cage and races are correctly aligned. If mating marks are not present, install inner race to cage so beveled areas are in contact.
- Install outer race so indented side of outer race is facing in same direction as beveled surface of cage. Align inner race narrow projection with cage wide projection. See Fig 1.
- Wrap vinyl tape over axle shaft splines to protect CV joint boots. Temporarily install CV boots and boot clamps. Remove grease from inboard joint-to-cover surface. Apply a .04" (1.0 mm) bead of Sealant (08826-00801) to inboard CV joint cover.
- Place new gasket on inboard CV joint. Align bolt holes and place cover on inboard CV joint. Loosely install cover bolts. Using a star pattern, tap cover into place using a plastic-faced hammer. See Fig 2.
