P0116 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance: DTC Detecting Condition

2009 Hyundai Tucson Limited, 2.0 BSECTION DTC Detecting Condition
Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
DTC Strategy Case 1)
  • Check coolant temperature signal stuck.
  • Contact resistance in connections.
  • Faulty ECT sensor
Case 2)
  • Compare Coolant temperature sensor signal with Oil temperature sensor signal at Start
Enable Conditions Case 1)
  • No ECTS failure
  • 6 < Battery voltage < 16V
Case 2)
  • No relevant failure
  • TOIL at engine stop of previous DC > 70°C (158°F)
  • ECT at engine stop of previous DC > 70°C (158°F)
  • Engine oil temperature at Start < 35°C (95°F)
  • Intake Air Temperature at Start < 35°C (95°F)
Threshold Value Case 1)
  • TCO model increase > Threshold But TCOmeas increase < Threshold (Threshold depends on Coolant start temp.)
Case 2)
  • Start coolant temperature > 53°C (127°F) with oil temperature < 35°C (95°F)
Diagnostic Time Case 1)
  • 10 ~ 30 minutes
Case 2)
  • Immediate
Mil On Condition
