Shift Interlock System

1996 Hyundai Elantra Base, 4D Sedan, Automatic, KM175SECTION Shift Interlock System
  1. To check system operation, turn ignition on. Depress release button on side of shift lever.
  2. With brake pedal released, shift lever should not move from Park. Depress brake pedal. Shift lever should now move from Park.
  3. If shift interlock system operation is not as specified, it may be necessary to check brakelight switch and A/T shift lock solenoid. See BRAKELIGHT SWITCHΒ  and

A/T SHIFT LOCK SOLENOIDΒ  . If necessary, check wiring and ground connections. See Figure .
