- Record radio preset frequencies for reprogramming, if equipped. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least 1 minute for backup power supply to deplete stored energy.
- Remove lower steering column cover. Disconnect 4-pin air driver air bag connector at base of steering column. See Fig 1. Connect appropriate air bag simulator, in place of air bag. See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
- Remove passenger air bag. See PASSENGER AIR BAG MODULEΒ .
- Disconnect passenger side air bag module electrical connector. Connect appropriate air bag simulator to vehicle harness, in place of air bag. See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ .
- Move passenger seat to highest and rearmost position. Disconnect passenger side air bag electrical connector under passenger seat. Connect air bag simulator to vehicle connector, in place of air bag. See AIR BAG SIMULATORΒ . Repeat procedure for driver side air bag module.
WARNING:
On vehicles with side air bags, manufacturer recommends removing front seats (with side air bag modules) before performing electrical diagnosis on air bag system. Seats may be left in vehicle if diagnostics are NOT being performed on side air bag system and air bag simulator is installed in place of side air bag harness.
WARNING:
On vehicles equipped with seat belt pretensioners, manufacturer recommends removing front seats before performing electrical diagnosis on pretensioner system. Seats may be left in vehicle if diagnostics are NOT being performed on pretensioner system and simulator tool is installed in place of pretensioner harness.
