The following components make up the lower engine:
- The oil pump is installed in the front cover and is not serviced separately.
- The engine block has 6 bolt main caps with the outer main cap bolts installed horizontally from the outside of the block.
- The camshaft is front gear drive and drives the injection pump.
- The pistons and wrist pins are oil cooled by nozzle jets located in the block.
- The pistons have a keystone shaped upper compression ring, a stepped lower compression ring with the step facing down, and two oil control rings.
- The main bearings and the connecting rod bearings are tangless design with color coded upper and lower halves.
- The vacuum pump is installed on the front cover and is driven by the injection pump drive gear.
