Test W: Power Sliding Door Inoperative From One Switch - No DTC

1999 Ford Windstar Base, Van Cargo, 3.8 4SECTION Test W: Power Sliding Door Inoperative From One Switch - No DTC
  1. Open and close power sliding door from overhead console open/close switch. If left power sliding door operates correctly, go to next step. If right power sliding door operates correctly, go to step  5. If left power sliding door does not operate correctly, go to step  8. If right power sliding door does not operate correctly, go to step  10.
  2. Disconnect left "B" pillar open/close switch 6-pin harness connector C942. Measure resistance between left "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C942 terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, monitor Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) PID SD_B_SW. Connect a fused jumper wire between left "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C942 terminals No. 3 (Tan/Light Blue wire) and No. 4 (Black wire). If PID SD_B_SW reads NOTACT, go to next step. If PID SD_B_SW reads ACTIVE, replace left "B" pillar open/close switch.
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect LPSDM 12-pin harness connector C355. Measure resistance of Tan/Light Blue wire between LPSDM harness connector C355 terminal No. 3 and left "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C942 terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace LPSDM. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Light Blue wire. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING .
  5. Disconnect right "B" pillar open/close switch 6-pin harness connector C941. Measure resistance between right "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C942 terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire.
  6. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, monitor Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) PID SD_B_SW. Connect a fused jumper wire between right "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C942 terminals No. 3 (Tan/Light Blue wire) and No. 4 (Black wire). If PID SD_B_SW reads NOTACT, go to next step. If PID SD_B_SW reads ACTIVE, replace right "B" pillar open/close switch.
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect RPSDM 12-pin harness connector C352. Measure resistance of Tan/Light Blue wire between RPSDM harness connector C352 terminal No. 3 and right "B" pillar open/close switch harness connector C941 terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RPSDM. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Tan/Light Blue wire. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING .
  8. Disconnect overhead console switch 8-pin harness connector C915. Monitor Left Power Sliding Door Module (LPSDM) PID SD_OPSW. Connect fused jumper wire between overhead console switch harness connector C915 terminals No. 5 (Black wire) and No. 8 (White/Light Green wire). If LPSDM PID SD_OPSW reads NOTACT, go to next step. If LPSDM PID SD_OPSW reads ACTIVE, replace overhead console switch assembly.
  9. Disconnect LPSDM 12-pin harness connector C355. Measure resistance of White/Light Green wire between LPSDM harness connector C355 terminal No. 2 and overhead console switch harness connector C915 terminal No. 8. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace LPSDM. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in White/Light Green wire. Initialize power sliding doors. See PROGRAMMING .
  10. Disconnect overhead console switch 8-pin harness connector C915. Monitor Right Power Sliding Door Module (RPSDM) PID SD_OPSW. Connect fused jumper wire between overhead console switch harness connector C915 terminals No. 5 (Black wire) and No. 6 (Light Green/Red wire). If RPSDM PID SD_OPSW reads NOTACT, go to next step. If RPSDM PID SD_OPSW reads ACTIVE, replace overhead console switch.
  11. Disconnect RPSDM 12-pin harness connector C352. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between RPSDM harness connector C352 terminal No. 2 and overhead console switch harness connector C915 terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RPSDM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Green/Red wire.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
