SRS is powered directly from battery and can function with ignition switch in any position, including OFF and LOCK. System can also function when driver-side and passenger-side seats are unoccupied. The 3 main functions performed by electrical subsystem are: detecting an impact, switching electric power to ignitors for air bags, and monitoring readiness of SRS.
