Fuel Level Sensor Tables
The table below gives approximate internal resistance and raw voltage values for a Fuel Level Sensor based on fuel volume. These can be used as a general reference when the actual values are not available for any single tank or saddle tank Fuel Level Sensors.Β As can be seen in the table, the full travel of the sensor (Full Stop/Empty Stop) is slightly more than the full tank and empty tank thresholds used for the fuel gauge.
| Generic Fuel Tank Table Values | ||
|---|---|---|
| Fuel level reading | Typical resistance of level sensor (Ohms) | Typical raw voltage signal input (volts) |
| Full Stop (Max full travel) | 50 - 60 | 0.5 - 0.7 |
| Full tank | 60 - 75 | 0.75 - 1.0 |
| 1/2 tank | 160 - 225 | 1.6 - 2.2 |
| Empty tank | 725 - 770 | 3.4 - 4 |
| Empty Stop (Max empty travel) | 930 - 990 | 3.9 - 4.5 |

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
