TENSIONER, Engine Timing: Removal
2024 Dodge and Ram Durango SRT Hellcat PlusSECTION Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
- Remove the timing cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVAL .
- Remove the ignition coils. Refer to: 5.7L/6.4L - COIL, IGNITION, REMOVAL .
- Remove one spark plug from each cylinder.
- Install the crankshaft bolt and using a suitable socket and breaker bar, rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks (1, 2).
- Assemble and mount the dial indicator to cylinder No. 1 to find Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
- Ensure that the camshaft gear (2) is aligned with the camshaft timing chain marks (1) in the twelve O'clock position and the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke.
- Secure the timing chain to the guide using a zip tie.
- Mark the crankshaft to oil pump housing at the twelve O'clock position (1).
- Retract the chain tensioner arm (1) until the hole in the arm lines up with the hole in the bracket.
- Install the special tool # 8514A, (Tensioner Pins) (2) into the chain tensioner holes.
- Remove the bolts (1) and the timing chain tensioner.
