TENSIONER, Engine Timing: Removal

2024 Dodge and Ram Durango SRT Hellcat PlusSECTION Removal

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the timing cover. Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, REMOVALΒ .
  3. Remove the ignition coils. Refer to: 5.7L/6.4L - COIL, IGNITION, REMOVAL .
  4. Remove one spark plug from each cylinder.
  5. Install the crankshaft bolt and using a suitable socket and breaker bar, rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks (1, 2).

  6. Assemble and mount the dial indicator to cylinder No. 1 to find Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
  7. Ensure that the camshaft gear (2) is aligned with the camshaft timing chain marks (1) in the twelve O'clock position and the engine is at TDC on the compression stroke.
  8. Secure the timing chain to the guide using a zip tie.

  9. Mark the crankshaft to oil pump housing at the twelve O'clock position (1).
  10. Retract the chain tensioner arm (1) until the hole in the arm lines up with the hole in the bracket.

  11. Install the special tool # 8514A, (Tensioner Pins) (2) into the chain tensioner holes.

  12. Remove the bolts (1) and the timing chain tensioner.
