- Pressure Control Solenoids:
- A short to battery failure is detected if the Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) indicates a short to battery failure or the PWM feedback signal at the output stage is 0%.
- An open circuit or short to ground failure is detected if the ASIC indicates a short to ground or open circuit failure or the PWM feedback signal at the output stage is 100%.
- A short to ground failure is detected if the ASIC indicates a short to ground failure in reaction to the output stage being switch off after an open circuit or short to ground failure detection.
- A bypass to ground failure is detected if the ASIC indicates a bypass to ground failure.
- A current too low failure is detected if the calculated pressure control solenoid current is less than a calibrated value.
- A current too high failure is detected if the calculated pressure control solenoid current is greater than a calibrated value.
- A Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) communication failure in the SPI communication between the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and the ASIC is detected based upon the validity of the check-byte, the timing and the feedback signal of the message.
- Shift Solenoids:
- A short to battery failure is detected if the voltage of the output signal during PWM duty phase is greater than a calibrated value.
- An open circuit failure is detected if the voltage of the output signal during PWM duty or no duty phase is in an invalid range.
- A short to ground failure is detected if the voltage of the output signal during PWM duty or no duty phase is less than a calibrated value.
- A short to ground or open circuit failure is detected if the commanded duty cycle for the solenoid is 100% and the ASIC indicates the output stage is switched off.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
