Cylinder Head: Installation
Left side shown, right side similar.
- If removed, using a new exhaust manifold gasket, position the exhaust manifold and install the retaining bolts finger tight.
- Using the sequence shown, tighten the exhaust manifold retaining bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ
.NOTE:
The cylinder head gaskets are not interchangeable between left and right sides. They are marked "T" for top, "B" for bottom, "L" for left side and "R" for right side.
- Clean all sealing surfaces of the engine block and the cylinder head(s) (2).NOTE:
Rotate crankshaft 45Β° so that all pistons are 1/2 the way down the cylinder bore to avoid piston to valve contact.
- Position the new cylinder head gasket(s) (1) onto the engine block.
- Position the cylinder head(s) (2) onto the engine block.
- Install the cylinder head bolts finger tight.
- Using the sequence below, tighten the retaining bolts.
- Using the sequence shown, tighten bolts 1-10 to 34 N.m (25 ft. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, tighten bolts 11-15 to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, tighten bolts 1-10 to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, verify bolts 11-15 are 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, tighten bolts 1-10 to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
- Using the sequence shown, rotate bolts 1-10 160 degrees
- Using the sequence shown, tighten bolts 11-15 to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
- Install the push rods and rocker arms. Refer to ROCKER ARM, VALVE, INSTALLATIONΒ .
- If removed, install the idler pulley and bracket. Refer to PULLEY, IDLER, INSTALLATION .
- If removed, install the supercharger belt tensioner. Refer to TENSIONER, DRIVE BELT, INSTALLATIONΒ .
- Install the catalytic converters. Refer to CONVERTER, CATALYTIC, INSTALLATION .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the supercharger assembly. Refer to SUPERCHARGER, INSTALLATIONΒ .
- Fill cooling system. Refer to COOLANT SYSTEM AIR EVACUATION
.NOTE:
Evacuating or purging air from the charge air cooling system must be done with the use of a pressurized air operated vacuum generator.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Start engine check for leaks.
