Control, A/C And Heater: Operation

2023 Dodge and Ram Challenger SXT, RWDSECTION Operation

Each of the A/C heater controls in the Integrated Center Stack (ICS) are resistor type controls. When a button is pushed, or a knob is turned, the ICS sends a resistive signal over hardwired circuits to the Uconnect® touchscreen module. The controls in the Uconnect® touchscreen module mimic the action selected on the ICS. The Uconnect® touchscreen module communicates the heater and A/C control request signals to the Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module.

The HVAC module is a dedicated microprocessor that automatically drives the electrically operated air-door actuators for the Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) Dual Zone heating and A/C system. The ATC HVAC module obtains sun load, in-car temperature and evaporator temperature information through hardwired circuits, and occupant heating and A/C settings and other required vehicle information over the Controller Area Network (CAN) data bus. Refer to MODULE, HVAC, OPERATION .

The ATC Dual Zone heating and A/C system is diagnosed using a scan tool. Refer to DTC INDEX (1 OF 2) and/or DTC INDEX (2 OF 2) .

Prior to replacing an A/C heater control or HVAC module, check for any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) related to the heating and A/C system, and run the calibration procedure to verify that the concern is not an air-door calibration issue. Refer to HVAC VERIFICATION TEST .

The individual A/C heater controls located in the ICS cannot be adjusted or repaired. If an A/C heater control or control indicator lamp is inoperative or damaged, the entire ICS must be replaced. Refer to MODULE, INTEGRATED CENTER STACK (ICSM), REMOVAL and MODULE, INTEGRATED CENTER STACK (ICSM), INSTALLATION .

The individual A/C heater controls located in the Uconnect® touchscreen module cannot be adjusted or repaired. If an A/C heater control or control indicator lamp is inoperative or damaged, the entire Uconnect® touchscreen module must be replaced. Refer to RADIO, REMOVAL and RADIO, INSTALLATION .

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
