Remote Keyless Entry Diagnostic System Check

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier LS, 2.4 TSECTION Remote Keyless Entry Diagnostic System Check
  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located on lower left side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UPΒ  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICEΒ  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Select BCM DISPLAY DTCs function on scan tool. If BCM DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no BCM DTCs are retrieved, repair Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system by symptom. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article. For 2002, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article.
  4. If communication DTCs (DTCs beginning with a "U") are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTCs beginning with a "U" are retrieved, go to TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICEΒ  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. If DTC B1000 or B1001 are not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1000 or B1001 are retrieved, go to DTC B1000: BODY CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONΒ  and/or DTC B1001: OPTION CONFIGURATION ERRORΒ  under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
  6. If DTC B1328 is retrieved, go to GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. For 2002, go to GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If DTC B1328 is not retrieved, diagnose and repair RKE system by symptom. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article. For 2002, see REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS article.
