Test F: Traction Off Indicator Inoperative

2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Base, 2D Coupe, Automatic, 4T40E/MN4SECTION Test F: Traction Off Indicator Inoperative
  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Install scan tool. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Select special functions under Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). Using scan tool, command warning indicators on and off. If TRAC OFF indicator turns on and off, go to next step. If TRAC OFF indicator does not turn on and off, go to step  8 .
  3. Using scan tool, select BCM data. Monitor traction switch parameter while pressing ETS switch. If scan tool indicates that traction switch is turning on and off, go to step  7 . If scan tool does not indicate that traction switch is not turning on and off, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect ETS switch connector. Check ETS switch ground circuit for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. After circuit is okay, go to next step.
  5. Connect a fused jumper wire between the ETS switch signal circuit and ground. Using scan tool, observe the traction switch parameter in BCM data list. If scan tool indicates that traction switch is turning on and off, go to step  10 . If scan tool does not indicate that traction switch is turning on and off, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect BCM harness connector. Check ETS switch signal circuit for open or high resistance. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If circuit is okay, go to next step.
  7. Check for poor connections at BCM harness connector. Repair as necessary. After repairs, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING. If connections are okay, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace instrument panel cluster. After replacing instrument panel cluster, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  9. Replace BCM. After replacing BCM, perform DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
  10. Replace ETS switch. After replacing switch, DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under DIAGNOSIS & TESTING.
