2001 BMW M5SECTION 12 14 524 Replacing pulse generator for exhaust camshaft (S62)

Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.

Switch off ignition.

The instructions apply to removing and installing both pulse generators for the left and right exhaust camshafts.

Illustrations show removal of the left pulse generator for exhaust camshaft.

Installation location is at rear of cylinder head.

E39 Only:Β 

Release retaining clips (1).

CAUTION: The air duct can break at the firewall if not carefully removed and installed.

Carefully twist air duct (2) upwards until it is no longer locked in firewall. Pull air duct (2) forwards and remove towards top.

E39 And E52:Β 

For a better overview, the following work steps are shown on an engine that has been removed.

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Release screw (2).

Remove pulse generator for exhaust camshaft (3).

Installation:Β 

Check seal (1) of pulse generator, replace if necessary.
