5HP19 - Diagnostic Information for EGS Faults (002) and (003)
MODEL
E39 with 5HP19 produced from 3/2001 to end of production
E46 with 5HP19 produced from 3/2000 to 3/2003
E46 with M56 SULEV and 5HP19 - all production
E85 with 5HP19 from SOP to 12/2005
SITUATION
The transmission Failsafe warning comes on along with a Check Engine light at times. The following fault codes are stored in EGS memory:
- Fault (002) 02 pressure actuator
- Fault (003) 03 pressure actuator
CAUSE
These faults may occur during cranking, especially during cold conditions, if the battery voltage drops below 10.5 volts.
CORRECTION
Do not replace the transmission or EGS module for these faults!
Check the battery state of charge, battery terminal connections, and charging system for the cause of the voltage drop and repair as necessary.
