SUBJECT
Board Monitor Screen Blanks Out

MODEL
E46 (3 Series) Convertible with Navigation System

SITUATION
The Board Monitor screen is blank or blanks out intermittently.

CAUSE
Moisture intrusion into the Board Monitor from condensation on the center vent ducts.

PROCEDURE
Board Monitor is currently blank (follow steps 1-8)

1. Remove the center vent and inspect the Board Monitor housing for water stains.

2. Check Power and Ground supply for the Board Monitor.

3. If wiring is good, and Board Monitor has water stains, then replace the Board Monitor.

4. Proceed to next step to insulate center vents.

Board Monitor intermittently blanks out (follow steps 5-8)





5. Remove the center dash vents located above the Board Monitor.

6. Insulate the bottom of the vent ducts as shown to the left (1) using foam tape. Foam tape may be ordered under P/N 16 11 1 183 070 (100 x 25 x 6 mm). Also Wurth and 3M are good sources for foam tape.





7. Install foam tape on the edges of both center vent ducts as shown in the illustration.

8. Reinstall center vent and retest system for proper operation.
