Automatic Air Recirculation Sensor (IHKA Integrated Automatic Heating/Air Conditioning)

2001 BMW 330Ci Convertible (E46) L6-3.0L (M54)SECTION Automatic Air Recirculation Sensor (IHKA Integrated Automatic Heating/Air Conditioning)

Automatic Recirculated Air Control

Automatic recirculated air control
The system assumes AUC mode by pressing the AUC/recirculated air button several times. As a result, the left and right fresh air/recirculated air flaps are closed dependent on the air quality. AUC mode is indicated by an LED in the AUC/recirculated air button.

The air quality is sensed by the AUC sensor in the engine compartment. This sensor is heated for 90 seconds after starting the vehicle. In order to avoid fogging of the windows on the inside of the vehicle, the fresh air and recirculated air flaps are forced open for a limited time during prolonged recirculated air mode. This time limit is 3 minutes in heating mode and 12 minutes in air conditioning mode. After these times have elapsed, the air supply is switched back automatically to outside air for 1 minute. AUC operation is reactivated after this 1 minute period.
