Transmission, Installing: Notes
Procedure
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
- Transmission installation tightening specifications TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING .
- The right flange shaft must be removed in order to install the transmission.
Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification.
Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and seals, gaskets and O-rings.
The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.
To secure the air guide hoses on their connections, spray the clamps used previously with rust remover before installing.
When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
-- Clean input shaft splines and hub and remove corrosion.
-- Apply the clutch disc shaft spline grease very lightly to the splines; clutch disc shaft spline grease. Remove any excess grease.
-- Check if the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.
-- Check the flange shaft seals for leaks; replace if necessary. Refer to LEFT FLANGE SHAFT SEAL or RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT SEAL .
-- If the transmission is going to be replaced, determine if the flange shafts need to be replaced before installing the new or replacement transmission.
-- Make sure the intermediate plate is engaged on the sealing flange and pushed onto the alignment sleeves.
-- Carefully raise the transmission with the V.A.G 1383 A and bring it into the installation position using the 3282, at the same time, guide the selector lever cable into the support bracket.
-- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.
-- Attach transmission to engine.
-- Install the subframe mount as follows:
-- Install the transmission support -A- between the transmission and the transmission mount support arm.
-- Attach the transmission support to the transmission with new bolts -1-.
-- Lift the transmission to the transmission mount support arm using the spindle on the 10 - 222 A.
-- First install the bolts -2- for the transmission mount to the transmission support hand-tight only.
-- Remove the 3282 from the transmission.
-- Install the flange shafts. Refer to LEFT FLANGE SHAFT or RIGHT FLANGE SHAFT .
-- Install the left ball joint. Refer to Removal and Installation .
