SUBJECT

Delayed 1-2 Shift On Cold Start Warm-Up

NOTE: Supersedes T.B Group 37 Number 96-02 dated December 6, 1996

CONDITION

Vehicle exhibits delayed 1 - 2 shift under part load after a cold start.

A warm-up program determines this shift characteristic and is activated when the following conditions apply:

  • Fresh start of engine
  • Gear oil temperature below 40°C (104°F).

This warm-up program is normal and lasts for approximately two minutes under the above conditions.

PRODUCTION

The cold start warm-up program was introduced in production for model year 1995 beginning with VIN 4AS_N_000 500.

SERVICE

No repairs are necessary.

Explain the technical facts to customers inquiring about the different shift points.

By raising the 1 - 2 shift point the emissions warm-up phase is reduced and the catalyst is heated faster for improved efficiency and better emissions performance.
