DTC B1776: Microphone Input/Output Short to Ground
- Connect the HDS to the DLC (see HOW TO CHECK FOR DTCS WITH THE HDS ).
- Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).
- Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC B1776 indicated?
YES- Go to step 5.
NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Remove the roof console (see INTERIOR LIGHTS SWITCH TEST/REPLACEMENT ) and the passenger's console cover (see CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION ).
- Disconnect the 20P connector from the roof console and the 22P connector from the HandsFreeLink control unit.
- Check for continuity between body ground and HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminals No. 9 and No. 10 individually, then check for continuity between the same terminals and HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminal No. 20 (harness shield).Fig 1: Checking Continuity Between Body Ground And Handsfreelink Control Unit 22P Connector Terminals 9 And 10

Is there continuity?
YES- Repair short in the wires between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the roof console or body ground.
NO- Go to step 9.
- Check the vehicle's trim level.
Does the vehicle have a navigation system?
YES- Go to step 10.
NO- Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit (see CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit (see CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT ).
- Disconnect navigation unit connector B (14P).
- Check for continuity between HandsFreeLink control unit 22P connector terminal No. 22 and body ground.Fig 2: Checking Continuity Between Handsfreelink Control Unit 22P Connector Terminal 22 And Body Ground

Is there continuity?
YES- Repair short to body ground in the wire between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the navigation unit.
NO- Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit (see CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the HandsFreeLink control unit (see CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST/REPLACEMENT ).
