- Apply engine oil to piston pin snap rings. Turn snap rings in grooves until end gaps line up with cutouts in pin bores. Carefully remove snap rings.
- Heat piston and rod assembly to approximately 158Β°F (70Β°C), then remove piston pin. Allow components to return to room temperature.
- Using a micrometer, measure piston pin diameter. Zero a dial indicator to piston pin diameter. Use dial indicator to check difference between piston pin diameter and piston pin hole diameter. Measure pin-to-connecting rod clearance. If any component measurement is outside service limits, replace as necessary. See PISTONS, PINS & RINGSΒ table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
- Install one piston pin snap ring. Coat pin bore in piston and connecting rod with engine oil. Heat piston to approximately 158Β°F (70Β°C). Install piston pin. Assemble piston and connecting rod with embossed marks on same side. Install remaining snap ring.
