Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
DTC 12, 14, 16 & 18: Wheel Sensor Intermittent Interruption
- Visually check appropriate wheel speed sensor and pulser installation for specific DTC set as follows:
- DTC 12 - Right Front Wheel
- DTC 14 - Left Front Wheel
- DTC 16 - Right Rear Wheel
- DTC 18 - Left Rear Wheel
If a problem is found in wheel speed sensor, repair as necessary. See WHEEL SPEED SENSORΒ under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If a problem is found in front wheel pulser, see FWD AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVE AXLES. If a problem is found in rear wheel pulser, see HUB/BEARING ASSEMBLY under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in REAR article in SUSPENSION.
- Disconnect 22-pin connector from ABS control unit. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of affected circuits at ABS control unit connector for specific DTC set as follows:
- DTC 12 - Terminal No. 9 (Green/Black wire) and terminal No. 8 (Green wire) for right front wheel.
- DTC 14 - Terminal No. 7 (Green/Blue wire) and terminal No. 6 (Brown wire) for left front wheel.
- DTC 16 - Terminal No. 19 (Green/Yellow wire) and terminal No. 20 (Blue/Yellow wire) for right rear wheel.
- DTC 18 - Terminal No. 17 (Light Blue wire) and terminal No. 18 (Gray wire) for left rear wheel.
See Figure . If resistance is less than 450 ohms, wires are shorted together. Repair as necessary. If resistance is 450 ohms or more, go to next step.
- Using DVOM, check continuity at ABS control unit connector between terminal of affected circuit for specific DTC set and other 3 wheel speed sensor terminals as follows:
- DTC 11 - Terminal No. 9 (Green/Black wire) for right front wheel.
- DTC 13 - Terminal No. 7 (Green/Blue wire) for left front wheel.
- DTC 15 - Terminal No. 19 (Green/Yellow wire) for right rear wheel.
- DTC 17 - Terminal No. 17 (Light Blue wire) for left rear wheel.
If continuity exists, check for short between 2 affected circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMSΒ . If continuity does not exist, clear code and test drive vehicle. If DTC resets, replace ABS control unit.
