Unlocking - Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM)
When an unlock sensor is activated in one of the door handles, the keyless vehicle module (KVM) activates the antennas in the handle on the rear doors on the side on which the unlock sensor handle was activated. An encrypted request is transmitted via the antenna to the passive remote key. The remote key transmits an encrypted response which is received by the remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver. The remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver checks that the received signal is from a Volvo remote key. If it is, the message is forwarded to the keyless vehicle module (KVM). The keyless vehicle module (KVM) decrypts the signal and compares the received code from the remote key with its own programmed codes. If these correspond, the keyless vehicle module (KVM) transmits two CAN-signals. One signal is sent to the relevant door module for unlock request of the relevant door. The other signal is transmitted to the central electronic module (CEM) which unlocks the other doors, depending on the system settings. The settings are:
- total unlocking
- selective unlocking.
HINT: If the handle is pulled out too fast after the handle's unlock sensor has received the unlock commando, this may result in the vehicle's locks not having time to unlock. In such a case, let go of the handle and then pull out the handle again. To prevent this from occurring you should wait until the door is locked before pulling out the handle.
HINT: The door handle normally registers a hand that grabs the handle. In case users wear thick gloves or very fast hand movement a second try may be needed or the glove has to be removed.
HINT: If both lock and unlock sensors are affected at the same time the vehicle may not be unlocked. Remove your hand and try again.
The handle on the tailgate is equipped with a lock button and an unlock button. The difference is also that only the antenna in the rear bumper is activated to check the remote key. If selective unlock is set, only the trunk lid/tailgate is unlocked and opened. If total unlocking is selected, the side doors will also be unlocked if the switch on the tailgate/trunk lid is activated.
