The parking assistance system serves as an aid to the driver when parking the vehicle. Based on information from a number of sensors, the system can warn of objects near the vehicle. The warning is in the form of an acoustic signal that is emitted from the speakers connected to the Audio Control Module (AUD) or the Integrated Audio Module (IAM). This acoustic warning is regulated by the parking assistance module (PAM) sending signals to the Audio Control Module (AUD) or Integrated Audio Module (IAM) via the Infotainment Control Module (ICM).

The Parking Assistance Module (PAM) makes the Park Assist System (PAS) and Park Assist Pilot (PAP) functions possible.

When the Park Assist System (PAS) function is active, this is displayed by graphics in the display for the Infotainment Control Module (ICM). When the Park Assist Pilot (PAP) function is active, this is displayed by information presented in the driver's instrument module (DIM). For the Park Assist System (PAS) and the Park Assist Pilot (PAP) functions there are two separate switches that are located on the panel for the Climate Control Module (CCM). When the Park Assist System (PAS) function is active, the LED illuminates in the switch. Activation and deactivation of the functions can be performed either automatically or manually. When Park Assist Pilot (PAP) is active, the Park Assist System (PAS) is also active.

The components which are directly connected to the parking assistance module (PAM) are:

  • Sensors rear (4 x)
  • Sensors front (4 x)
  • Sensors side (2 x - one on each front side of the vehicle)

The parking assistance module (PAM) communicates with the following control modules via the CAN:

  • Central Electronic Module (CEM)
  • Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Module (SAS)
  • Brake Control Module (BCM)
  • Infotainment Control Module (ICM)
  • Trailer Module (TRM) (accessory)
  • Transmission Control Module (TCM)
  • Engine Control Module (ECM)
  • Climate Control Module (CCM)
  • Steering Wheel Module (SWM)
  • Power steering module (PSCM)
  • Parking Assistance Camera (PAC)
  • Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL)
  • Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR)
  • Driver Information Module (DIM)
