NOTE! THIS DOCUMENT SUPERSEDES THE PREVIOUS TECHNICAL JOURNAL 24382 DATED 07-20-2011. ECM software (SW), with improved oil level sensor calibration, for XC60 (156) with engine
90 and 99 is now available. Perform ECM Upgrade according to VIDA. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR FILES.
DESCRIPTION:
Yellow warning symbol lit and text message in DIM "Engine oil level low" may occur. When checking with dip stick, oil level is at mid level or above.
PRODUCT MODIFICATION:
For engine 90 in XC60, ECM SW was implemented into production 2012w10. See chassis ranges above.
For all other engines and vehicle types, work is ongoing to correct this wrongly sent message and the solution is pending.
NOTE!
It is important to write the oil level according to dip stick in the repair order and warranty text when the message was present.
SERVICE:
In the case of a customer complaint of this message, first check the oil level.
If the oil level is not at mid level or above, refer to TJ 24643. If the oil level is not at mid level or above AND the vehicle is an XC60 with engine 90 (before 2012w10) or engine 99, then perform an ECM upgrade AND THEN follow the TJ 24643 for oil consumption diagnosis.
If the oil level is at mid level or above, do not replace any components! For XC60 with engine 90 (before 2012w10) or engine 99, perform an ECM upgrade. For all other engines DO NOT REPLACE SENSOR (P/N 3075780). JUST DRAIN AND FILL WITH NEW ENGINE OIL ACCORDING TO VIDA SPECIFICATION.
If the vehicle's next service interval (i.e. 7,500 miles, 15,000 miles) is not within 1,000 miles of the current repair miles, do not reset the "Service" reminder light, and continue with the vehicle's normally scheduled maintenance.
