- Ignition on.
Activate the valve in the leak diagnostic unit to check whether the fault is permanent or intermittent.
The valve clicks when it is activated.
The fault is permanent if the valve does not activate.
The fault is intermittent if the valve activates.

Check the signal cable from engine control module (ECM) terminal #B40 (#B50) to leak diagnostic pump terminal #3. Check for an open-circuit. Check for a short-circuit to ground.
Check the engine control module (ECM) and leak diagnostic pump connectors. Check for contact resistance and oxidation.
Remedy as necessary.
