Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status ECM-200F Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Faulty signal
Note! When reading off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status, other stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status will also be listed.
Read off the diagnostic trouble code (DTC) status. Check the status of the relevant diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Was the status of the relevant diagnostic trouble code (DTC) permanent?
Yes - Checking the engine coolant temperature (ECT)
No - Checking wiring and connectors
-------------------------------------------------
Checking wiring and connectors
Check the connector on the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Check for contact resistance and oxidation. Check for loose connections.

Fault-tracing information
If the fault is intermittent, do not verify fault-tracing if the fault does not recur.
It is possible to view the information again, or leave fault-tracing for this diagnostic trouble code (DTC).
Do you want to view the information again?
Yes - Attempt New Test
No - Fault Found

FAULT FOUND - DONE
DONE - DONE
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the engine coolant temperature (ECT)
- Fault-tracing must begin with the engine cold (+20°C) so that the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor can be tested over as wide a temperature range as possible
- Switch off the climate control system
- Start the engine.
Read off the engine coolant temperature (ECT).
Check that the engine coolant temperature (ECT) is within its permitted range and corresponds with the engine warming up.
Is the temperature within its permitted range?
Yes - Checking the thermostat
No - Replacing component
-------------------------------------------------
Checking the thermostat
- Start the engine. Run the engine until the engine coolant temperature (ECT) reaches approximately 100°C
- Activate the engine cooling fan (FC) with the engine running
- Wait approximately 90 seconds and then shut-off the engine cooling fan (FC).
Read off the engine coolant temperature (ECT). If it is 85°C or lower when the fan stops, the thermostat is defective.
°
Is the engine coolant temperature (ECT) 85C or lower?
Yes - Replacing component
No - Fault-tracing information
-------------------------------------------------
Replacing component
Try a new engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor.
Other information
- To access or replace the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, see Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor, replacing Service and Repair.

Hint: After carrying out the repair, check that the fault has been remedied.
- Ignition off.
- Reconnect connectors, reinstall components
- Verification must begin with cold engine (+20°C (68°F)) so that the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor can be tested over as wide a temperature range as possible.
- Turn off climate control.
- Start the engine.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- β’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- β’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- β’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- β’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- β’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
