Downloading software and replacing the control module
New software can be downloaded into the phone module (PHM). When ordering software, the hardware and the software in the car are compared to the data in the Volvo central database. If the comparison is OK the software is downloaded to the control module.
If the comparison between the car and Volvo central database is not OK, the database is updated with the car configuration. When this is complete the software is downloaded.
The phone module (PHM) is installed beside the audio module (AUM). If the phone module (PHM) is replaced, the keypad must also be replaced.

When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:
- • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
- • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
- • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
